Author Interview with Shyla Colt

CK: Please welcome author Shyla Colt. Shyla’s books are simply fantastic and I can’t wait to read more of her work.

SC: I just wanted to say thank you to Charisma for having me over.  :)

CK:  You’re welcome sweetie, anytime! Where did you submit your first story? Let’s talk about it!

SC:  Luck was on my side when I submitted my very first piece. I did some research and decided Evernight Publishing was the best fit for my paranormal adventure featuring angels and demons. They’ve been a big bag of wonderful, and I am grateful to be with them.

CK: Ah, that would be Don't Fear the Reaper. Here's the book cover and purchase link.

CK:  Talk to me about What The Heart Knows. That is a favorite of mine. I've read it twice since I purchased it. How did this particular story come to you?

SC:  I could see the character in my head, clearly. Oliver was a lanky, white-blond haired widower still hurting from the loss of his high school sweetheart turned wife a few years prior. When he walks into a tiny café he comes face to face with a new chance at love. It sounds almost sweet, but then my mind, being the twisted place it is, had to put a paranormal spin on it, lol.

CK:  From one twisted mind to another, there’s nothing wrong with twisted. I love the paranormal!!   ; )  What The Heart Knows intrigues me. What characters did you identify with the most? I’m trying hard not to include any spoilers in this interview. I’m curious to know which character other readers identified with and why. It would be nice if you could do a chat for this story in one of the book club groups on Facebook.

SC:  Wow… Oliver. Maybe because I’ve known loss that cuts you soul deep, and that struggle to pick yourself up, and keep putting one foot in front of the other until you actually feel human again.

CK:  It is a great struggling dealing with the loss of a loved one and the healing process takes time. We all mourn in our own way. Poor Oliver mourned for two years until he was finally able to move on. I loved how you put this story together. What is your newest release?

SC:  The Unveiling is my latest. It’s a Sci-fi romance with adventure, star crossed lovers, and genetically altered humans. It explores the question, What would you do if the one who caused years of heart ache is the one person you’re meant to be with forever, and the savior of your people? Could you forgive or would the hurt sour you?  It’s the sequel to The Wanting, and I actually have a trailer… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRyeb5usy3g

CK:  Very nice trailer. I have both books, and I'll be reading them soon. Let’s talk about your upcoming release!

SC:  I have a book releasing March 15th called, Vixen Healed. It’s the second in my Vintage Vixen series, and I’m very excited, because it’s my first Romantic Suspense! This is actually the first time I’ve spoken about it, so here’s a sneak peak at my blurb.

CK:  Awesome, here is the cover for Vixen Claimed which is currently out on all publishing platforms. Now is the time to check this read out before Vixen Healed hits the presses folks.

Blurb: Vixen Healed

Feelings of protectiveness become passion, and the possibility of the one thing he’s sworn off, love. Can they come together to heal the hurts of the past and carve out a future filled with happiness?

CK:  Okay, another book of yours to add to my TBR pile. That sounds very interesting, thank you for sharing. What are your future goals?

SC:  I’d like to put out longer books, see some of my babies in a bookstore, and attend a convention to CK:  That would be great to see a fellow author’s books on the shelves at Target or Walmart. One day that will definitely happen Shyla. What are your hobbies?

SC:  It sounds cliché, but I honestly do love to read. I also like to travel and listen to music.

CK:  How do you unwind?

SC:  Watch movies/shows, listen to music, and hang out with my family.

CK:  Do you mold your characters strictly from imagination or from those you cross paths with in everyday life?

SC:  Hmm, I think a little bit of both. Sometimes a character comes to me as is, and other times real life sparks a concept.

CK:  Do you allow your muse to take total control, or do you create an outline before writing?

SC:  Funny story… my bestie and I have coined a phrase for the phenomenon of my muse taking the reins, Characters gone Rogue.  I used to be a planner, but I’ve found the best way to go now is to go in with a loose outline, usually in my head, and let the characters show me what’s going to happen. When I write I think of the book as a movie. So I go scene by scene vs. chapter by chapter.

CK:  What methods of research do you utilize? I know, I know! The internet is available, but do you scour the library as well? LOL

SC:  I love research. Even before professional writing my friends called me the “Queen of Research” so I dig deep. Internet, sometimes the library, but more than not I purchase the book, being a stay at home Mom it’s easier for me to buy it and read it on my Nook on my own time usually.

CK:  Inquiring minds what to know, where can you be found on the internet?

SC:  Haha If I told you that, I’d have to kill you…  seriously though, I’m always popping into the Evernight Reader’s group, my blog www.shylacoltsstraightshot.wordpress.com, Facebook, and Pandora, along with a bunch of random other places.. Oh Cant’ forget pinterest, love that place.

CK:  Lmao! Oh yeah, Pinterest is great. What advice would you like to pass on to aspiring authors?

SC:  Never give up. Write, Write, write, share with someone you trust, improve, and submit.

CK: Shyla, I couldn’t agree with you more.

CK:  Where did you submit your first story?

SC: At the time of writing I didn’t know about the variety of publishers out there. My first story and first rejection came from Ellora’s Cave.

CK:  What is your newest release?

The Bad Boys' Virgin Temptress

The Law Castle Bad Boys, 1

Cheryl Fisher is a virgin on a mission. She’s spent the better part of her life caring for her sick mother. On her death bed, her mother made her promise to live life to the fullest and to never take one moment for granted. In order to fulfill her promise, she goes in search of the two men she can trust with her body.

Noah and Drew have had their eyes on Cheryl for a while. Both men know they want to share her. When Noah learns the truth about her virginity, he’s shocked by the possessive feelings he has towards her.

Together, they must show Cheryl that there is more to them than their bad boy reputation. They want her with them forever, and they will do everything in their power to fight for her.

Be Warned: menage sex (MFM), anal sex, spanking.

Excerpt:
“You look fucking beautiful, angel.”
She blushed and went to cover her tits. He moved the short distance and pulled her hands away from covering her body. “Never try to shield yourself from me.”
He palmed her breasts, watching her eyes dilate and her lips part as her breathing changed to pants.
“Do you like what I’m doing to you?” he asked. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Drew fucking his fist. It had been a while since they’d shared a woman together, and the raw need he felt for the woman in front of him was reflected in his friend.
“Yes,” she said in response to his question.
“Tell me to touch you.” Noah wanted to hear her demands from her lips.
“Touch me, Noah.” His name on her lips sounded heavenly to him. Going to his knees in front of her, he took the edge of the cotton panties she wore and pulled them down her legs. Her pussy was covered with trim red pubic hair, telling him she truly was a real redhead.
When he had her naked and gasping he would take off his leather pants. The need to have her begging him to fuck her was strong. She lifted her feet, and he threw her panties away before he stood in front of her once more. She was biting her lip, tilting her chin back as he pulled her lip from between her teeth. He then claimed her lips as he caressed down her body, testing the weight of her breasts in his hands, going down and tracing circles in the swell of her tummy, settling on her mound at the apex of her thighs. Sliding a finger between her slit, he felt her wetness instantly. She was dripping.
“You’re so wet,” he said watching her face heat from a delightful blush. He hadn’t seen a woman blush in years. “Open your thighs. I want to feel your cunt.”
Noah groaned and wished he could take the words away. He didn’t want to speak crudely to her, but it was who he was. She opened her thighs, giving him easier access. Running his finger down to her entrance, he inserted a finger inside her, feeling a barrier but not thinking much of it. She was tight, hot, and wet. Slipping in a second finger he heard her wince.
“Has it been a while since you’ve been with a man?” he asked.
She mumbled something, and he felt a thrill go right down his spine from the pleasure of knowing he would be her first man in a long time. Removing his hand, he pushed her to the edge of the bed while Drew moved closer, climbing onto the bed behind her. Noah spread her legs, kneeling on the floor in front of her. Her cunt leaking out her cream was one of the most erotic views he’d ever seen. Using his thumbs, he pulled her lips apart for him to see her swollen clit peeking out of its hood. She looked red, swollen, and good enough to eat. Noah swiped his tongue from her cunt all the way up to her clit, swirling round the nub and back down.
He heard her scream, and glancing up, he saw Drew had turned to her side and was tonguing her nipples. Noah could only imagine that the dual sensations of their tongues would be driving her crazy. This is why he loved sharing her with his best friend. He got to see his woman lose control while still being able to touch her. An extra set of hands and lips were much better than doing it all alone. Pressing both of his thumbs against her clit, he watched what Drew was doing to her.
Her gaze kept shifting from Drew to him and then back again, her eyes growing wider with every passing second.
“Do you like this, Cheryl?” Noah asked.
“Yes. Touch me more. Please. I need to be touched.”
He licked her pussy, running his fingers through her hair trying to enhance every pulse of sensation.
“Touch me, baby,” Drew said.
Noah glanced up to watch her wrap her small hand around Drew’s large cock. The end was wet from his cum. The excitement was obviously becoming too much for his friend. Smirking at the look of pain on Drew’s face, Noah went back to licking the nicest cream he’d ever tasted.

The Bad Boys’ Reluctant Woman

The Law Castle Bad Boys, 2
After living in the Foster system, Zoe Howard does not trust easily. She moves to Law Castle with the hope of settling down. What she doesn’t expect is to be the woman that three men desire.

Jake, Brent, and Connor have been friends all their lives. They want a woman to share, and they know that woman is Zoe. However, she keeps all three men at arm's length. Her reluctance is frustrating as they know she wants them back.

Zoe is reluctant to give herself to three men. She’s scared to love and to trust again. All three men fight her resolve and show her how it can feel to be loved by all of them. When Zoe ends up in danger, her men realize the love they feel for her.
But could they be too late to tell her how they feel?
Be Warned: anal sex, menage sex (MFMM)

Excerpt:
She stared at his erection. He felt her gaze like a caress over his length. “I thought you didn’t want me.”
“Baby, I wish I was able to reduce my need for you. Look at me, Zoe. I’m dying here.”
Her chuckles lightened the mood. He took her hand and kissed her knuckles. “I didn’t push you away. I was trying to do the right thing.”
“Connor has seen me naked,” she said.
“Lucky bastard. He gets all the fun. I think it has something to do with that brooding thing he’s got going for him.”
She lifted the shirt up and over her head. “I think it is only fair you get to see me and make up your own mind.”
Brent stared at the perfection of her body. He’d had many sizes and shapes of women, and none of them held a candle to Zoe. She was all woman. Every part of her was full and soft. His cock pulsed at the sight of her.
His mouth watered for a taste of her.
“What else did Connor do?” he asked.
He would come if she said anything about fucking. Brent had no control left.
“He touched my breasts.”
“Like this?” he asked, reaching out and cupping the mounds. They were heavy and ripe. Brent loved the feel of them in his hands.
“Yes,” she said with a gasp to her voice.
“Do you like me touching you?”
“Yes.” Brent felt her tits and watched her nipples harden. “He licked my nipples as well.”
Pre-cum leaked out of the tip of his cock.
“Is that all he did?” Jake asked, startling them. Zoe spun around, and Brent pressed her against his front.
“Connor has touched her breasts, Jake,” he said, holding her tits in his hands.
“I see you have as well.”
“They’re perfect, Jake. Come and feel.”
Jake walked over and took what Brent offered.
Zoe was shaking between them. Brent leaned down and whispered in her ear. “If you want us to stop, say so.”
“No, I’m fine.”
“What else did Connor get to do?” Jake asked.

His Possession

The Owners, 1
Cadeon Ashwood is a dominant man who has one problem: he’s overly possessive. When he meets Violet Moore for the first time, he knows she is the woman for him. The possessive instinct she stirs within him can only mean one thing—she will be the woman who owns his heart.

Violet is a shy young woman who is trying to make her way in the world, but she has a dark past filled with shame. She is constantly looking over her shoulder.

When Cadeon sees an opportunity to get close to the younger woman, he takes it with everything he’s got. She drives him crazy with the way she bows her head, and her innocent blushing makes Cadeon want her more.

For too long she’s lived without love and safety. Cadeon offers her everything, but will she live long enough to enjoy it?
Be Warned: light BDSM, spanking.

Excerpt:

“What are you doing?”

“Do you like it?” he asked.

She nodded her head with a frown. “It feels really good.”

Her legs opened wider, and he smiled. Cadeon focused all of his attention on her clit. He wanted to draw out her pleasure even as his cock was crying out for some of his own. Being naked, skin to skin with her was too much for him to contain. He used both fingers and pleasured her, sucking her nipples into his mouth. Her hips moved in sync with his fingers, riding his hand. It was a natural call to the woman within her.

He stared into her eyes as one of her hands touched his shoulder. She lifted up to look between her legs.

“Let it come, baby.”

Her gazed turned to him. He increased the pace of his fingers. Violet shook and screamed as her climax went through her. Cadeon brought her over the edge and kept her in the bliss for moments. He absorbed every sound and look coming from her. He relishing the knowledge he’d been the one to bring her to her first orgasm. When she came down, he reached over to the draw by the bed. He pulled out a long tube.

“What are you doing?” she asked breathlessly.

“It’s my turn, only I want us both to feel good.” He flicked open the tube of lubrication and smeared a generous amount on his dick before putting some more on his fingers. He threw the tube on the other side away from them. Bringing the blob on his fingers between her legs, he rubbed it over and between her slit, making sure she was nice and wet. Cadeon opened her legs and got between her.

Violet stopped him with a hand on his arm. “What are you doing?”

“Don’t worry. I’m not going to fuck you, but I need to come.” Taking a thigh in each hand, he opened her legs wide. For a second he stopped to admire the beauty of her pussy. The lips were wet with the mixture of the lube and cum, her clit red and swollen. She looked good enough to eat. He draped her legs over his thighs and grasped his cock. Cadeon moved the tip through her slit, not pressing against her entrance. He wasn’t lying when he said he wasn’t going to fuck her. This was about them getting used to each other. All thought if she begged him to fuck her, he would do it. He wanted her that badly.

He settled himself between her legs, his cock resting against her clit and between the lips of her pussy.

Taking her hands in his, he pinned them against the pillow by her head. “Look at me,” he said.

She opened her eyes and stared back at him. For the rest of his life he wanted to watch her. With a move of his hips he saw her eyes widen in wonder. Each movement provided him pleasure and pressed on her clit, giving her pleasure as well. He did it slowly at first, bringing out the sensation to make it more enjoyable for her. With her already having one release, he wanted to draw the second one out.

Sweat covered both of their skin as she began to move with him, her hips lifting with him. Part of him wanted to lift that last little bit and penetrate her, but he stopped. If he took her now, he could abuse the trust she had in him.

“Cadeon,” she said on a moan. He knew what she was thinking. His cock was rock hard, and he knew he was seconds from coming. Taking her lips in a searing kiss, he rode her harder. The sensation was enjoyable. However it wouldn’t be as good as the feel of her cunt squeezing him like a fist. Closing his eyes, he inhaled her scent. He bit down on her shoulder. The need to mark her as his. He sucked and did something he’d never done to another woman. He gave Violet his first ever love bite.

CK:  How do you tackle writer’s block?

SC: Thankfully, I’ve never suffered with writer’s block. I’ve always got so many ideas and I work from several notebooks where I keep them as well.

CK:  What are your future goals?

SC: To continue writing full-time and hopefully make a success of it.

CK:  What are your hobbies?

SC: Writing started out as a hobby but I now do it full-time and whenever the muse hits.

I love to cook and bake.

CK:  How do you unwind?

SC: By going into my kitchen and cooking. I also enjoying reading and the lists of books for me to read is always increasing. Walking is a wonderful source of inspiration as well.

CK:  Do you mold your characters strictly from imagination or from those you cross paths with in everyday life?

SC: Most are from my imagination. I don’t like being influenced by another person’s character, in case I start to write it as if they are in the book. Using my imagination gives me a free reign over the story and I don’t feel I have to be strict with a character’s point of view.

CK:  Do you allow your muse to take total control, or do you create an outline before writing?

SC: I attempt an outline before writing but most of the time, the muse is in control. I’ve learned my lesson on previous stories and now the muse is always in control.

CK:  What methods of research do you utilize? I know, I know! The internet is available, but do you scour the library as well? LOL

SC: I have several books that I read from that include encyclopedia’s, medical books, anatomy books and books on different countries. I also use books in kink, BDSM and different types of love play.

I love going to the library. There is always an endless source of knowledge.

The internet is also a brilliant place. However, be careful on the internet to make sure your source is reliable. The worst you can do is start writing a story with information that is incorrect.

CK:  Inquiring minds what to know, where can you be found on the internet?

SC: You can find me here:

CK: What advice would you like to pass on to aspiring authors?

SC: Do not give up. I was going to give up after several rejections but my family were the ones to convince me to keep on going. I now write full-time.

Learn your craft and remember to enjoy writing. I love writing and providing I can always write, I’ll be happy.

Also, talk to other authors to find out if there is another publisher out there that will suit your work.

There is a lot of advice to be given and I’m always learning.

CK: Sam Crescent, thank you so much for sharing.

SC: Thank you for having me.

Author Delilah Hunt in The Spotlight

CK: Hello folks! Today, please welcome author Delilah Hunt! She says she's a newbie writer, but I don't bloody believe it! Where did you submit your first story?

DH: I submitted the Vampire’s Pet to a couple of different publishers but got nothing but rejections until the wonderful folks at Changeling Press decided to take a chance on a newbie.

Blurb:

For centuries the vampire Mikhail has hunted the Loup Garou, werewolf shifters. Ever present by his side, his faithful she-wolf Kassia, an unassuming pet... until the day he stumbles upon her secret.

A Loup Garou trapped inside her she-wolf body, Kassia suddenly finds herself in human form, complete with the trappings of being a werewolf in heat. Will Mikhail, the powerful leader, cast her aside or keep her to fullfill their each and every desire?

* * *

Excerpt:

She lay on the stone floor, writhing in agony, her entire body burning in flames, the scorching heat centering in her lower belly. Unsure what to do, Kassia rocked back and forth, trying desperately to make the unfamiliar ache go away.

Sadly, her problem did not end there. She now had to deal with the human body that she had long since relinquished all hope of ever regaining. Ironically enough, this had to happen when she had finally begun to feel at ease by the vampire Mikhail's side. Luckily, the first time the transformation had occurred, it had been around midday. She had awoken to an unusually cold feeling even though she had fallen asleep on the thick blanket Mikhail had provided for her in front of the sizzling fireplace.

Intending to check on him, a daily ritual of hers, Kassia proceeded to rise up on her hind legs, but found it was difficult. Something felt different. She'd looked down, expecting to see the ebony fur she'd grown accustomed to, finding nothing but smooth, mahogany skin in its place. Her heart jolted with excitement and joy. And then the fear had settled in.

Maintaining her position on the floor, she'd craned her neck to gaze up at the sleeping male on the imposing fourteenth century four-poster bed. "Mikhail," she'd said, her voice ragged, cracking from years of disuse. Her vocal cords had produced a repertoire of barks, whimpers and yelps.

Naturally, he hadn't heard or answered her call while he slumbered. She'd lain back on the blanket, worrying. What would become of her when he found out? Worse, what if Rowan found out about her, that his suspicions of her being more than a mere wolf had been correct all along? The vampire would more than likely rip her apart at the first chance he got. But what would Mikhail do?

"The Loup Garou have always been a mistake, unfit to live among the creatures of this planet," she'd overheard him saying in deep conversation with a visiting vampire. She was a Loup Garou, and therefore she was included in Mikhail's plan of extinction. It was that memory that had prompted her to find a way to hide her true nature from him.

So far it had been easy. Each day while Mikhail slept and in the afternoons when he was preoccupied, she would sneak away to the hidden part of the castle she'd discovered by trailing after him. Inside this damp neglected room she would practice the seamless transformation from wolf to human until it became second nature to her. Shifting.

And so she had, making sure to return to her wolf form before Mikhail became suspicious of her hours away. Today had been different, however. All day long she had been aware of Mikhail, his scent, his voice, his powerful presence. Walking by his side earlier today, she'd wagged her tail insistently, wanting him to acknowledge her female presence. That had been impossible and confusing.

She'd fallen behind him, unnoticed, seeking refuge in this cold dark room, switching to her human form. Within minutes, she'd known something was wrong. Her skin became warmer than usual; a delicious itch crept between her thighs, the kind that no amount of squeezing her legs together could alleviate. There was no way she could return to Mikhail like this, no way she could shift back into her wolf form with these sensations coursing through her blood.

Curled up and naked on the floor, she gazed in distress at the door being pushed open. Kassia froze, held trapped by the piercing cobalt-blue eyes, her eyes wide with disbelief and shock. It all became too much. Scrambling to her feet, she wobbled over to him, her balance unsteady. "Mikhail." She locked her arms around his muscular frame.

He held her at arm's length, his eyes studying, searching. "Wolf?"

Kassia nodded, her coarse raven curls bouncing. "Kassia. Not Wolf." She had waited years to say those words.

"What is the meaning of this?" He backed away from her, his fangs receding into his gums.

She wrapped her arms around her middle and lifted her chin. "I would have told you. I swear it." She would have... eventually.

His eyelids lowered dangerously, matching his carefully meted out words. "You mean that my brother was correct. That you are one of them?"

CK: Mikhail is so damn sexy! * sigh * Vampire’s Pet! I read this book and I loved it! Can't see why anyone would reject it. The excerpt totally grabbed me! Please tell us how you came up with the idea for this intriguing story! Oh, and I need to say, looks like those publishers will regret not taking a chance on you. Just look at you now. You've made the top 10 over at All Romance Ebooks with Tempting Mr. Parker. I'm sure Vampire's Pet will follow. That's right, shout it from the rooftops!!!

DH: To be honest, most of my stories really just pop into my head from out of nowhere. No back story to it at all. Once I have the idea, I just let the characters take over and see what develops.

CK: What are your future goals?

DH: To write many more erotic I/R stories. I would like to focus more on contemporaries however as that is where my heart lies. Hopefully one day I will be able to write for a bigger publisher such as Harlequin in their Blaze line.

CK: Not hopefully, I know for a fact you will achieve that goal of writing for the big dogs of publishing. Now, what are your hobbies?

DH: Reading, which is basically the obvious answer for a writer. I also enjoy baking and taking long walks. I love to plot while walking because it’s so relaxing.

CK: How do you unwind?

DH: With a cup of hot chocolate. I wouldn’t say I get to unwind because I have a four year old and two year old son who are with me 24/7. I just try to make the best of it, even if they nap for only ten minutes.

CK: Do you mold your characters strictly from imagination or from those you cross paths with in every day life?

DH: I would say strictly from imagination. I try to stay focused on the characters and give them their own voice outside of the people I know.

CK: Do you allow your muse to take total control, or do you create an outline before writing?

DH: Totally allow the muse to take control. I always start my stories with just a basic idea and let the muse do her work from there on out.

CK: What methods of research do you utilize? I know, I know! The internet is available, but do you scour the library as well? LOL

DH: Nope. I use google and yahoo search engines. That’s it.

CK: Inquiring minds what to know, where can you be found on the internet?

DH: I am a complete Facebook addict every signing up a few months ago. I also love to visit Absolute Write water cooler and Romantic times forum. When I’m not there I’m updating my blog. http://delilahhunt.wordpress.com/

CK: What advice would you like to pass on to aspiring authors?

DH: Do not ever give up. I know it’s easier said than done, but not once did I ever think I would become published. For me it felt like the odds were the same as winning the lottery and yet here I am a published author. So, please be patient and just keep writing and perfecting your craft. It will happen sooner or later.

CK: Oh so true! Delilah, thank you so much for sharing. Here's to all your successes! Hey folks, be sure to check out Delilah's newest release, Hell's Angel over at Changeling Press.

Excerpt:

Thrown out of Heaven for a crime he didn't commit, Callum, a fallen angel turned demon, wants revenge. When an angelic beauty falls to the floors of Hell, the captain of Lucifer's army is torn between his need for vengeance and his lust for the bronze-skinned angel.

Forgoing her life in the heavens, Amara descends into the underworld in search of the demon who has captivated her thoughts. Instead of the warm welcome she anticipated, Amara finds herself a prisoner willing to risk it all for the love of a hardened demon.

Blurb:

Amara dipped her finger inside the crystalline bowl. A vivid display of copper and orange vapors swirled above the purified water. She pulled her finger back, her eyes widening in horror and curiosity at the forbidden underworld. Hell. Her wings fluttered and a mysterious tide of emotions welled inside her chest. Oh, but how she would love to be permitted to deliver a missive to the fiery underworld. She was a messenger angel, and so far the only messages she had been instructed to deliver were those from the Keepers of the Gate to the Guardian Angels, informing them when a new soul was due to arrive at Heaven's entrance.

Amara stifled a gasp when the vapors began to move, shifting into images. Her eyes skimmed the depiction, looking past the harried and tortured souls she could see twisting in their own agony. A demon turned the corner, stepping over one of the souls with his long legs. Her gaze settled and softened on him. Callum, the fierce captain of Lucifer's army. While Lucifer sat upon his throne ruling over the Underworld, it was Callum's duty to maintain order and prevent the countless number of souls from escaping their eternal damnation.

She leaned closer to the bowl and peered downward, memorizing every single detail about him. He wore black armor with spiked metal spaulders above his shoulders. The same armor protected his legs, and metallic boots wrapped his calves. His horns, thick and massive, curled off to the sides of his blond head.

If her best friend Reina knew she'd been sneaking peeks inside the forbidden realm, the eldest of the messenger angels would deny all access to her quarters. Amara's excuses of merely wishing to spend time with Reina would no longer cut it. Glancing backward, Amara checked to make sure the telltale sign of a portal was not being opened, signaling Reina's return. No traces of silver threads looping in the air. Good.

She returned her focus to Callum, knowing this was the closest she would ever get to the demon. What a sorry sight she made. A two hundred-year-old angel who had never traveled beyond the boundaries of the Pearly Gates captivated by the captain of the army that had once attempted to conquer Heaven.

"You're still here? I thought for sure you would have returned to your garden."

Flushing with guilt, Amara jumped away from the bowl and snapped her head to the side. Specks of silver shimmered around the auburn-haired angel. "I'm sorry, Reina. I lost track of the time." She raised her head, centering her eyes on the large bookshelf in the corner of the room. "Your books are all so fascinating."

Reina arched her eyebrow. "Only the books, Amara? Have you been using the vessel?"

"No!" Amara closed her eyes and struggled to breathe. Her tongue became heavy, and her nostrils flared, attempting to take in air. "I stole one glance." She wheezed. Her breathing returned to normal and the weight on her tongue lifted. "I was curious, Reina. Forgive me."

A shadow fell over Reina's face. "You didn't have to lie. We both know the painful consequences of doing so. I've known all along that you've been sneaking glances into Hell. Is it the demon Callum who has piqued your curiosity?"

She lowered her head a notch. "It is. I can't stop thinking about him, and I don't know how to control this feeling. Some days it's as if these emotions threaten to consume me. I wish to touch him, Reina. To look into his eyes and know that he can see into mine."

"It's called desire." Reina lounged on her green velvet chaise. "It will pass, and if it doesn't you will learn to live with it. There is nothing to be done about this feeling, Amara. The demons and every other being are free to act upon their desires. We are forbidden. Worse, to act upon such desires with a Hell-bound demon is an abomination. Take your mind from him. Callum would taint you in ways you're much too innocent to comprehend."

Amara nodded, thankful Reina had not admonished her by threatening to take the matter to the elders. "I'll try not to dwell on him. I know it is an impossible situation. An angel -- a mere messenger one, at that -- would be of no use to Lucifer's warrior. I'll take your advice."

Reina's face brightened and she patted Amara's shoulder. "You'll be saved a ton of heartache in the end."

Spreading her wings, Amara waved goodbye to her friend. She flew over the misty clouds that surrounded the realm. Soaring through the marble pillars separating her garden from that of the other angels, Amara allowed the reckless thoughts of Callum to float through her mind. Five months had passed since she'd first set sight on the mysterious demon. She'd seen him by accident after taking a look inside Reina's mysterious bowl. For days she'd spent every free minute scouring the ancient texts and tomes, seeking information about the demon. The only thing she'd found was a hand-drawn portrait of him in his heavenly glory, his large white wings outlined with silver. She knew he no longer possessed those angelic features; instead he had black wings curved upward at the tip, sharp as barbed wire.

Her knowledge of him and his time in the heavens was limited. The one thing she knew for sure was that he was one of the first angels created by the Decider of Chaos. He'd been an archangel, the highest order of angels in the heavens, revered for the single-minded focus on vanquishing all that stood in the way of the righteous path of the Decider.

"Amara!"

She pivoted toward the voice of her friend Sierra, frowning at the anxious look on the angel's face. "What's wrong?"

"Can you deliver a message for me to the Realm of the Fae?"

She nodded, thrilled at the chance of seeing outside Heaven. "Did you bring a portal with you?"

Sierra reached into her pouch, withdrawing a woven envelope. "Here." She handed the silver threads to Amara. "And do hurry, Amara. I was supposed to have delivered this in the morning."

Amara waved off the angel and then flicked the threads into the air. Her heart skipped a beat. The Realm of Fae was situated directly above the Hell dimension. She shook her head, pushing away the traitorous thoughts meandering through her mind. Deliver the message and return.

Stepping through the portal, Amara silently spoke the name of her destination. She arrived there immediately, delivering the envelope into the hands of a waiting faerie. She returned inside the gaping portal, and in a split-second decision, Amara whispered the one word, the only word forbidden in her travels. Hell.

The portal seemed to come to life, quaking all around her. She was lifted into the air and spun upside down, tumbling into an abyss. It was as if someone had snapped her wings in two and thrown her from the heavens. Her stomach plummeted, and a thick wave of fear rose inside her throat. Fire blazed around her and the pungent stench of sulfur invaded her nostrils. Amara kept falling until she landed with a hard thud on her side, her face hitting the soot-covered ground.

Groaning in pain, Amara tried to sit up, but found there was no need to. A rough hand dragged her off the dirt. "Inform the captain of our visitor."

CK:  Definitely getting this one too.

Spotlight on Author Tracy Ames

CK:  Hello folks! Happy Friday to ya! Today, welcome erotic author Tracy Ames!

TA: Thanks for the invite, Charisma. It’s a pleasure. I’m a fan of your work.

CK:  Aww, that's sweet, thank you. I'm a huge fan of your work!  How many years have you been writing?

TA: I’ve been writing professionally, in one fashion or another, for nearly fifteen years, however, I’ve been fulltime for the last seven.

CK:  I love your stories Tracy, and admire how you are such a “Master of Words.” I’ll admit, my imagination has allowed me to tell some good stories, but I am by far no master of words. My jaw drops when I read your work. How do you do it?

TA: Thank you so much. I’m often criticized for making readers break out their dictionaries or fire up Google. It’s not my fault, really. My vocabulary is a byproduct of transatlantic living and a mother who approached the use of proper English with Hitler-like efficiency. I use imagery to convey what words can’t easily translate. For example, the physical act of kissing, putting your tongue in someone’s mouth and wiggling it about isn’t even theoretically hot...ever. Even still, it’s difficult to describe however the emotion one feels when being kissed isn’t. It’s universal; everyone has experienced the warm gooiness of a kiss.

Remember:
Stimulus: Reaction- Perception- Emotion- Response
Description: Sight- Sound- Scents- Taste- Texture
(There’s a cheat sheet on my site)

CK:  Wow, that's kick-ass. Well mamma didn't go wrong there, now did she? We all thank her because it is a fine attribute to your stories. Now, where did you submit your first story?

TA: I submitted my first story to a now defunct European newsletter. I wrote for them for five years which was my springboard to other ventures with Hustler and Scarlet Magazine.

CK:  Now see, I'm impressed! Hustler?? You go girl!! Please, tell us, what are the pros and cons of being a published author?

TA: The biggest pro is being able to do what you love. The biggest con is doing what you love and being judged accordingly. If you come into this industry with thin skin you’re going to bleed to death. Sadly, most artists are by nature thin skinned. Self-reflection and self-awareness is a must. The solidarity amongst artists is an enormous pro. I’ve met extraordinarily talented individuals from all genres and levels of profession, and it’s their camaraderie and willingness to share that I find most appealing.

CK:  Would you do us the honor of providing a sneak peek of your most recent project, if possible?

TA: I’d love to give you a snippet of my upcoming release Beg Me but my copy editor would hang me. It’s still in brown paper status. My most recent novel Make Her Want It, the sequel of Seduce Me, went to Amazon’s bestseller list before its release thanks to presales. It has also been nominated for several awards—we’ll see how things pans out, lol. The first chapter as well as an additional excerpt can be found on my site.

The Kink and interracial elements of Make Her Want It turned it into a risky endeavor but it was well worth it. Edward and Sonya’s, my hero and heroine, characters were independently strong so bringing them into a non-vanilla tale didn’t subjugate either of them. Indeed, it gave the readers greater insight into their personalities. Edward is an unapologetic alpha male, and Sonya is his mirror image and submissive. When the sparks start flying, its best everyone run for cover, lol.

CK:  Please share one of your earlier novels with us.

TA: My first full length novel was Seduce Me which was the story of Nick and Ali, two characters from my early literary days. An excerpt can be found on my site. It’s rather long, I’m afraid.
Seduce Me

CK:  He He, no worries. I'm sure readers will venture over once the interview is complete. What are your future goals?

TA: My future goal is to expand my media company, Blue Art Media, to incorporate a resource and networking center where new and aspirating artists can connect with seasoned pros and benefit from their wisdom. People are always willing to reach back and offer assistance…the resource center will provide them a forum to do so.

CK:  Awesome, I wish you luck Ms. Lady! Sounds nice! If your books were turned into a movie, but producers wanted the heroine to be white and the hero black, would you allow that?

TA: Ha! Good question and one I’ve struggled with recently. Someone described my characters as A-racial, meaning their race is forgotten after the initial intro and only referenced in fleeting context. Even still I wouldn’t care to have my characters changed. No, I don’t follow stereotypes and none of my characters fit comfortably in any mold. However, changing their race wouldn’t sit well with me.

CK:  Yes, I feel the same, thank you for that answer. Do you foresee interracial romance (not erotic because of children) books in stores such as Walmart, Target, and CVS in the near future? Any ideas on how we in this genre can make it happen?

TA: Actually Walmart and Target sale the Harlequin’s Blaze Series which has a few interracial offerings. Yes, they’re bloody rubbish but it’s the first step towards crossover acceptance. A few years ago Walmart was questioned about their willingness to stock the Blaze Series (which employs racy language) and their reason for opting out of carrying other publishers. As you can imagine the matter was swept under the rug.

Crossing over to the ‘supermarket’ aisle is a blessing and a curse and we, as artists, should weigh the pros and cons as carefully as our publishers. Pros: more exposure, potentially higher volume of sells, bragging rights aka “Hey, look mom! Here’s my book!”….Cons: demands for a cheaper product will send the artists profit per unit through the floors, loss of artistic control, censorship that’ll make Mao look like a bleeding heart liberal.

CK: Wow, now I never thought of that. Okay, hmmm, let's keep things the same then. LOL If you were to spring into another genre, becoming even more successful than you are, would you deny you once wrote erotica?

TA: Erotica, Refugio de Amor! To deny my erotic past equates to spitting in the faces of everyone who has aided me not to mention those of my loyal fans. If I ever become that arrogant, I give you permission to kick my teeth in.

CK: Ha Ha! What other genres are you interested in writing in?  YA, Mystery, Suspense, Thriller, Scifi, or would you combine all these, with the exception of YA into your erotica/erotic romance stories?

TA: I’m in the process of moving into lit fiction and historical. I have two manuscripts in the works; one is based in 18th century France, the other is set on the border of England and Scotland. Both will be interracially based. I’m really excited about these projects. Being able to combine my two passions, history and erotica, is mint!

CK:  Okay, you got me! I'll be on the lookout for these. Can't wait!! What are your hobbies?

TA: I’ve been painting and studying photography since I was very young. And for the past six years, I’ve been involved in competitive ballroom and salsa dancing. I’ve studied American Smooth under Christian Lange and Latin/Rhythm under Paul Scicchitano; both of whom have current standings. Love them!

CK:  Sweet! How do you unwind?

TA: I lock myself in our bedroom and watch documentaries— I completely veg out on useless knowledge. And thanks to a soundproof bedroom, I go undisturbed.

CK:  Do you mold your characters strictly from imagination or from those you cross paths with in everyday life?

TA: Most of my characters are composites of the people around me however I also draw from strangers. My favorite coffee guy, Lee, at Dean and Deluca was my muse for “Lee” in my short story “Beg Me”. My muses love seeing themselves in print.

CK:  Do you allow your muse to take total control, or do you create an outline before writing?

TA: After one too many rewrites, I now create outlines before embarking on any project. Once I have the outline sorted out, then my muse is free to run wild…and run wild they do!

CK:  What methods of research do you utilize? I know, I know! The internet is available, but do you scour the library as well? LOL

TA: I’m a research hound! I’ll research the topic to the ends of the earth. The internet is extremely useful however there’s still much to be said for print literature especially when you’re researching unfamiliar countries, cities, and cultural.

Here’s a tip: Picking up guide books is head and shoulders above Googling. Why? Because they offer detailed descriptions about the locations (food, streets, lodging, local culture and so on) which the internet can’t provide or the information is sparse and scattered. Lonely Planet guides are the best on the market however they cost almost triple that of other guides. I make a habit of picking up travel books from second-hand shops, AAA, and library sales. Also, check local book swaps or simply ask a follow writer.

CK:  Please tell us where can you be found on the internet?

My official site is: InterracialErotica.net

CK: Okay, cool. I'll have to friend you on Myspace. Also, please be advised, your pictures will take readers to your Facebook page! What advice would you like to pass on to aspiring authors? You’ve been wonderful in sharing what you’ve learned in the industry, and for that we all thank you. Folks, jot this down, because what she's about to say is excellent advice.

TA: The best pieces of advice I can give are to keep on going and read your contracts very carefully. Publishers who push are slow to pay. If you don’t understand any element of your contract, don’t sign—if you question your art direction, put the breaks on. No matter what they say, they can’t go further without your consent. And please, for the love of peach cobbler, familiarize yourself with the new copyright laws—there is a link on my site. Remember, your name is going on the cover, not theirs. Most important, stay true to yourself and surround yourself with people who’ll sit you down and say, “Dearest, that last page was rubbish.”

CK:  Thanks once again for being so kind and easy to approach. The information you’ve shared is most valuable, and we appreciate it!

TA: Thanks for having me. I look forward to reading more of your work.

CK:  Aww, stop it! You're making me blush! But I thank you! * giggling * Coming from you that's quite a compliment! And I, look forward to reading more of yours too, lady!!
